Disability funding will be phased out

14th December 2010

The government has confirmed that it is to phase out the Independent Living Fund by 2015.

The fund, which is responsible for supporting over 21,000 people with severe disabilities, is worth £359 million and is designed to help people stay at home rather than living in a care home. The minister for disabled people Maria Miller said: "An independent discretionary trust delivering social care is financially unsustainable."
