DIY teeth whitening kits 'risky'

5th November 2010

Dentists have warned that DIY teeth-whitening kits could be putting teenage girls at risk of suffering permanent tooth and gum damage.

Experts have warned that self-treatments using items such as baking soda, ash and hydrogen peroxide can strip tooth enamel and cause lasting damage to the gums. Professor Anthony Eder, clinical director of the London Tooth Whitening Centre, said there was growing concern among teens about their teeth but many internet offers of whitening recipes have the potential to damage healthy teeth.
