Do dentists remove teeth to save money?

The Daily Mail reports that experts are worried that NHS dentists are taking teeth out when it is not necessary.

Two million patients have teeth removed by the health service every year. However, "when a tooth is compromised, root canal treatment can be a really good way of saving it" Dr Susie Sanderson of the British Dental Association explained. The Daily Mail writes that it has anecdotal evidence that some dentists do not offer the root canal option to their patients because it costs more and takes longer.
