Doctors criticise PM's speech

14th January 2008

Doctors have criticised Prime Minister Gordon Brown's plans for the future of the NHS.

Mr Brown said the NHS needed to become a "personal and preventive" service and heralded the introcution of a nationwide screening plan. Doctors said that the screening proposals were too little, too late and would take funding away from other areas where it was needed.
