Doctors slow to appreciate risk of contaminated blood

And inquiry has heard that the majority of haemophiliacs who contracted HIV from contaminated blood products were already infected before doctors understaood the disease.  Ian Franklin, professor of transfusion medicine at the University of Glasgow, told the independent probe into the deaths of nearly 2,000 haemophiliacs exposed to HIV and Hep C that concerns about HIV/Aids infection were first raised in 1983.
