Doctors to be paid to work weekends

5th August 2014

In a bid to clear waiting list backlog doctors and nurses are to be paid for working weekends and evenings.

Waiting times will get worse for some patients according to health secretary, Jeremy Hunt, as NHS staff try to clear backlog of patients who have been waiting a year or more.

For the first time since March 2008 the total number of people waiting for treatment has hit 3 million which is 5% of the population of England.

It is indeed a pitiable situation that a patient in the UK has to wait for treatment for a year or more. Can somebody tell what is the waiting time like in other EU countries. By the time they try to clear this backlog of 3 million, a million or two will be perhaps be added!
