Doctors told stop giving antibiotics

GPs have been informed that they must stop giving patients prescriptions for antibiotics to combat colds and coughs.

The Department of Health is concerned that that "overuse" of antibiotics has contributed to the rise of deadly hospital infections. As part of a £270 million campaign to fight superbugs, Alan Johnson has announced that the "unnecessary use" of antibiotics must end.
