Dog bites on the rise

Figures show that the number of people being treated for dog bites in hospitals in England has risen sharply.

In the last four years, according to NHS statistics, the number of people attending accident and emergency departments after being bitten by a dog has risen 40% to almost 3,800 a year. In London during that time, the number of patients under the age of 18 treated for dog bites in London more than doubled and in the West Midlands it rose by 80%.
