Dr Foster names two trusts with high mortality rates

29th November 2011

Two trusts have been identified by the Dr Foster Hospital Guide 2011 as having consistent high mortality rates.

Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust and University Hospitals of North Staffordshire NHS Trust scored particularly high on three of the guide's four indicators relating to mortality rates. University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust had the highest in-hospital death rate and the guide also revealed patients were at increased danger of dying if they were admitted on Saturday or Sunday, rather than during the week.
