Egg donor ads on buses

6th March 2007

A 54-year-old woman is advertising for an egg donor on London buses.

Linda Weeks and her husband Richard say this is their last desperate attempt to become parents and they are spending £2,000 on the campaign which will run for a month from the middle of March. The advert states, "We'll never be Mummy and Daddy unless a wonderful woman aged 36 or under can help us by donating some of her eggs. You are our only chance of happiness."

The couple from Maidstone in Kent have spent the past 14 years trying for a baby with no success. Their fertility clinic will refuse treatment once Mrs Weeks turns 55 so the advertising campaign represents their very last hope of becoming parents. "If we don't have any luck this time, then that will be the end for us," said Mrs Weeks.

She continues, "I had such a happy childhood myself and all the time I was growing up I was just looking forward to the day when I would have children of my own to give a happy life to. This is my last chance now to hopefully make the dream come true."

Mr and Mrs Weeks advertised for an egg donor in their local shop last year but no-one came forward. They decided to invest in a bus advertising campaign to mark their 14th wedding anniversary and the adverts include a picture of their wedding day. It is thought their bus appeal is the first of its kind.
