Electronic discharge for Walsall

13th August 2008

A West Midlands hospital has begun the first stage of an in-house electronic discharge summary project in an attempt to increase communication between the hospital and local GP practices.

Walsall Manor Hospital says it decided to make the move in-house ahead of the national NHS Connecting for Health product. The project was inspired by requests from GP practices and a desire to improve information flows between primary and secondary care, with GP practice staff and hospital clinical staff involved in the development of a web-based system.
