English GPs earn more

17th July 2007

The Information Centre (IC) has published figures which show that GPs in England have the highest salaries in the UK.

The information revealed that GPs in England had an average net income of £103,564 per annum - nearly 15% more than the average in other parts of the UK. Family doctors earn an average of £82,696 in Scotland, £91,151 in Northern Ireland and £91,588 in Wales.

The figures come from the GP Earnings and Expenses Enquiry 2004/05, which contains information provided by 17,897 GPs.
