EPRs needed for optometrists

28th February 2013

The College of Optometrists has suggested that optometrists should use electronic systems to improve data collection and referrals.

In a report entitled “Better data, better care: ophthalmic public health data report 2013”, the college said that by improving data collection by introducing electronic systems, optometrists would be much better placed to communicate more effectively with hospitals, GPs and local health authorities. The college’s vice president David Parkins said that good quality information was central to providing good quality patient care.
