EU tags billions for research

The European Union has earmarked at least €6 billion in funding over the next seven years for research in the latest breakthoughs in health technology.

Under the 7th framework programme for research, scientists could apply for funding for biotechnology research, as well as nanosciences.

E-health initiatives such as healthcare Web sites and online medical services could also receive funding under the seven-year programme, officials said.
