Explosion of swine flu expected

2nd October 2009

The government's chief medical officer Sir Liam Donaldson says there could still be an explosion in swine flu cases in the coming weeks.

There were 14,000 new cases in England last week - up from 9,000 the week before - while in Scotland it went up from just over 7,000 to 13,800 but the figure is short of the rapid doubling which was feared. A vaccination programme is due to begin soon with GPs starting to call people in during the second half of October.
