Fall sick on leave from work, claim time back

A European Union ruling has paved the way for employees to request additional time off if they become unwell while they are on holiday.

The decision by the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg will apply to the British legal system immediately. Katja Hall, of the Confederation of British Industry, said: "Many firms already take a common sense and sympathetic approach. But allowing employees to reclassify their holiday as sick leave opens the door to abuse."
