Fears sunbed use will rise in recession

11th May 2009

Cancer Research UK say that one fifth of people who regularly use sunbeds say they plan to "increase usage" because they are unable to go on holiday because of the recession.

The poll showed that 34% of the 2,000 people who responded were "less likely" to go to a hot destination. Katy Scammell, of Cancer Research, said: "As the recession takes its toll on people's holiday plans, what is clear is that a tan is still something that many people value and aspire to. Using a sunbed may seem like a cheap, quick fix to achieve that summer glow, yet while the process may only take a few moments, the damage can last a lifetime."
