Flu rates double in fortnight

22nd February 2013

New figures suggest the flu season has begun in earnest with rates almost doubling over the past two weeks as a rising number of people visit their GPs with symptoms.

Latest Health Protection Agency data shows the number of people seeing their GP with flu-like symptoms increased to just over 22 per 100,000 in the week ending February 17. However, while cases have risen steadily in England they remain within expected levels for this time of year and similar rises have not been seen at this stage in Northern Ireland, Wales or Scotland.
