Foundation trust failure

Around 80 trusts will fail to achieve foundation status by Alan Milburn's original deadline of 2008.

NHS chief executive David Nicholson has asked authorities to decide which trusts they think will meet the new deadline of 2010. A spokesperson for NHS London said: "There will be huge ramifications for London. Not everyone will meet the 2010 deadline for foundation status."
