Ghosts in the machine

11th April 2006

Oh dear. Did I mention "challenges" in my first post? Only one day into running a live site and we appear to have lost the BBC UK Health live news feed. This in turn is stopping the hc2d news pages from loading fully. The BBC News headlines are also down yet the BBC World Health news feed (as opposed to the UK one) is functioning fine. Strange thing is, we've been using the UK health news feed on other sites for some time now snd it's normally very reliable.

Though I suspected some XML glitch somewhere, best way to get to the bottom of this - I thought - is to go to the source. And there it is; the BBC UK Health feed servers are not "accepting new connections." It kind of sounds like they're on strike or something. Of course, what I need to know is whether this is a 24 hour strike or an indefinite strike? But further information is conspicuous by its absence.

Oh dear...
