Good news about tea

Researchers have announced that tea can be as beneficial to your health as water.

According to a new study, drinking three or more cups of tea per day is as good for you as drinking lots of water.  Nutritionists say the nation’s favourite drink re-hydrates the body as efficiently as water and has several other health benefits.

The antioxidants present in tea promote cell healing and can rapidly repair dry or damaged skin.  Tea is also a natural source of methylxanthines, including theanine, which is an amino acid with psychoactive abilities.  Theanine works on the body by reducing stress and can ease anxiety and physical stress.  Theanine can cause a person to feel more relaxed, the study says.

Tea can also make skin appear younger and is particularly useful in repairing skin that has become dry during winter. The over 40s are the most prolific tea-drinkers – the traditional ‘cuppa’ makes up 70% of their entire fluid intake.
