GP abortion power should end

17th October 2008

Specialists have called for the laws governing GPs' permission for abortions to be changed so that two doctors no longer need to grant permission for the operation.

A letter published in The Times newspaper has been signed by the experts, including Kent University expert Professor Sally Sheldon. She said: "The two doctor requirement has no place in the modern health service and we should not be placing these obstacles in the way of women wanting an abortion."
