GP-led health centres may be 'waste of money'

13th January 2009

The Health Select Committee has said the government's quick roll out of new polyclinics could squander "millions of taxpayers' money".

The Committee said the Department of Health had so far failed to pilot test any of the new polyclinics and that not all healthcare trusts would benefit from them. They criticised the polyclinics which have been built in London, where their "roll out will precede the results of the evaluation."

The report warned that this "has the potential to waste taxpayers' money and be grossly inefficient."
