GP practice records on internet

23rd March 2006

A GP practice in Glossop, Derbyshire has made 15,000 medical records available to its patients over the internet; the first in the country to do so.

The records, including referral letters, can be accessed through a secure connection via the practice's website or www.patient.co.uk. Patients will also be able to book appointments and order repeat prescriptions. However, they will not be able to view pathology or test results until they have been back to the surgery to see their GP. If the system proves successful, it will be rolled out nationally.
