GP practices face losing thousands

13th January 2010

Many GP practices could lose thousands of pounds in 2010 because they have not met the targets for vaccinations set out in the patient survey.

The average practice could lose £4,315, compared to £3,295 last year. Dr Richard Vautrey, GPC deputy chair, said GPs had faced problems meeting the targets for swine flu jabs. "When the agreements were made, nobody was certain about the severity of swine flu. Predictions in the summer were alarming, but things have quietened down. Patients have not being convinced of the severity of the illness, and vaccination has been slower than expected," he explained.
