GPs lack child protection training

16th July 2009

The Care Quality Commission has warned that only a third of GPs are up to date in their child protection training.

This is despite a requirement for all NHS staff who have regular contact with children to have reached 'level 2' of child safeguarding training.

A review by the national regulator of child safeguarding in the NHS found that only 54% of NHS staff have reached the more basic level expected of all NHS staff, with just 35% of GPs having reached level 2.
