Great Ormond Street Hospital fire

A fire which broke out at Great Ormond Street children's hospital meant nearly 50 patients and their families had to be evacuated from the cardiac wing.

The fire was extinguished by 30 firefighters after it broke out around 8.30am on the cardiac wing. The hospital's chief executive Dr Jane Collins said: "There were some children who were due to have surgery this morning so they were already in the process of being anaesthetised". She said the children were woken up and evacuated from the hospital.
