Haemophiliac vCJD confirmed
17th February 2009The Health Protection Agency has said the first case of vCJD in a haemophiliac patient has been found.
The male patient died of other causes, but a post-mortem detected the disease in his blood. "This new finding may indicate that what was until now a theoretical risk may be an actual risk to certain individuals who have received blood plasma products, although the risk could still be quite low," said Professor Mike Catchpole of the agency's Centre for Infections.
