'Hands off' for SHAs

An expert panel concluded that new strategic health authorities should steer clear of trying to revive a former role of imposing ‘top-down’ planning on health economies, adopting instead a ‘lean’, ‘hands off’ approach.

This was the advice given by Monitor chair Bill Moyes, West Midlands SHA chief executive designate Barbara Hakin, King’s Fund chief executive Niall Dickson and Picker Institute director Angela Coulter who shared a debate platform at the NHS Confederation conference.
