HCC new commissioners

The Healthcare Commission has appointed three new commissioners.

The commission has announced that Professor Deirdre Kelly, Clare Dodgson, and Clifford Prior have joined the 12 current commissioners in the watchdog headed by Chairman Professor Sir Ian Kennedy.

The commission was set up to improve the quality in healthcare and public health.

The three new recruits combine experience across public services and the voluntary sector, as well as health and healthcare. They will each receive £7,500 renumeration for their role.

Deirdre Kelly is Professor of Paediatric Hepatology at the University of Birmingham and Medical Director of Birmingham Children’s Hospital since 2000, where she founded the liver unit.

Cliff Prior CBE, has extensive experience in the voluntary sector, having been Chief Executive of mental health charity Rethink and programme director at the Mental Health Foundation. He is currently Chief Executive of UnLtd, the Foundation for Social Entrepreneurs.

Clare Dodgson has held Chief Executive roles at a number of health authorities and was Chief Executive of the Legal Services Commission. She also held the post of Chief Operating Officer of Jobcentre Plus, and held roles as Chief Executive and Director at various health authorities throughout England.
