Health Professional check

29th September 2006

The Health Professions Council (HPC) has warned that people are putting their health at risk by visiting specialists without first checking if they are qualified. It said a survey undertaken in Birmingham showed seven out of 10 patients received medical treatment without making any checks.

The HPC registers those working in 13 health-related professions, including dieticians, occupational therapists, physiotherapists and speech and language therapists. The HPC said that patients who have not been referred by a doctor should first check the HPC website database of registered practitioners.
