Health records lost

21st May 2008

An NHS trusts fears that a computer back-up tape containing the health records of more than 38,000 patients could be “lost forever after it was lost by a courier.

The Isle of Wight’s Sandown Health Centre sent its records to a specialist firm for its software to be checked but the tape failed to arrive. While acknowledging it may never be found, the Isle of Wight NHS Primary Care Trust said the risk of the tape being misused was extremely small and said the health centre did have another copy of the patient data.
