Health risk from indoor laundry drying

2nd November 2012

A study carried out by the Mackintosh School of Architecture in Glasgow has suggested that drying laundry in the home poses a health risk to those prone to asthma, hay fever and other allergies.

Researchers found that many homes had too much moisture indoors with up to one third of it coming from laundry being dried inside the property. The study of 100 homes by the Mackintosh Environmental Architecture Research Unit in Glasgow found that 87% dried their washing indoors in colder weather.
