Health staff urged to get vaccinated

21st September 2012

NHS staff have been urged to get vaccinated against flu to cut the risk of it spreading to patients and colleagues over the winter period.

Figures show that up to a quarter of healthcare workers may become infected during a mild influenza season, a much higher incidence than expected in the general population. Director of Nursing Viv Bennett said staff should lead by example and recognise the importance of having the flu vaccine themselves as that will "reinforce the benefits of immunisation and reassure people that it is safe and effective".
