Health visiting profession to be 'rejuvenated'

18th August 2011

The Department of Health has set up a national health visitor taskforce.

The move, designed to “rejuvenate” the profession in England and recruit 4200 new practitioners, follows the publication of the government’s “Call to Action” implementation plan in February in which it set out a development framework for a new beefed up service. The taskforce will be chaired by independent health service advisor and registered health visitor Dame Elizabeth Fradd and run initially until July 2013. Organisations represented on the taskforce include the Royal College of Nursing, the NHS Confederation, and the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
