Health visitors to stay in practices

24th October 2008

NHS Glasgow and Clyde has abandoned plans to remove health visitors from GP practices.

The health board had planned to move health visitors out of local practices and into social work teams but backed down after months of protests against the plan by GPs, thousands of complaint letters from patients and claims that patients and staff had not been properly consulted. Doctors feared the move would lead to undetected post-natal depression and worse child protection. NHS Glasgow is now consulting on alternatives.
