Surprising! If, as reported, the average cost of a hospital bed is GBP 400 per day and if there, on an average, about 200-400 patients waiting for discharge for an year or two after being declared fit for discharge, the average cost due to this runs into more than hundred thousand Pounds per day. Yet, day in and day out, some body or the other keeps blaming the NHS for not providing sufficient patient care, including lack of funds. If precious funds are spilled away like this, no amount of increase in the Budget of NHS will be enough to provide the best care that the NHS wants to give to its patients. Unnecessary and avoidable visits by the patients to the surgeries or to their A&E Units for simple ailments which can be taken care of at home or which will disappear on its own after one or two hours, is another factor draining the NHS finances. Unless, these are plugged the woes of NHS will not go away so easily.
