Hospital to apologise to 'cancer cure' patient

9th December 2008

NHS Lanarkshire has made an apology to a patient who was informed that she was "cured" but who had a recurrence of cancer less than a year later.

The patient, known as Mrs C, was diagnosed with cancer in 2006 at Wishaw General hospital. She wrote a complaint to the Scottish Public Service Ombudsman after receiving a letter from her consultant which said: "There is no doubt at all that all the cancer has been removed and currently you are cured."
