Hospital worker suspended over Facebook pictures

25th January 2010

NHS Greater Clyde and Glasgow has confirmed it has suspended a nurse working at the Southern General Hospital in Glasgow after photographs of patients undergoing operations were posted on a social networking site.

The trust has launched an investigation after the photos were discovered on Facebook. Margaret Watt, chair of Scotland Patients' Association, said it was "totally unacceptable" and added "the health board have taken the appropriate action by suspending the person. But I would like to think that there is some kind of law where the police are able to take some action against these people. Because this was a breach of the patient's human rights and their privacy."
