Hospitals should report knife wounds

28th April 2010

The Liberal Democrats have said that they believe that hospitals should provide police with information when victims of knife woundings are treated in emergency departments.

The party’s home affairs spokesman Chris Huhne said that only three out of 10 hospitals were currently doing so, but in those areas crime had fallen by as much as 40%. He was concerned that even in some of the so-called ‘tackling knife crime areas’ that the government has set up, hospitals were not cooperating with the police.
