IG being turned into a 'black art'

14th May 2012

A spokesperson from the Information Commissioner's office has warned that some people in the NHS risk turning Information Governance into a "black art" in order to stop projects working properly.

Dawn Monaghan, ICO group manager for public services, said: "Data protection is not there to stop you sharing information, it’s there to enable you to share information in a safe way." Ms Monaghan spoke as part of a conversation held at Health In4matics conference in Birmingham which explored problems concerning IG in the health service and the "myths and legends of data sharing".
