Illicit payments scandal hits NHS

25th January 2013

A former healthcare worker has been arrested by police investigating illicit payments from journalists to public officials.

The Guardian website has reported that a 59-year-old man has been held at his Merseyside home by detectives from the Metropolitan police’s Operation Elveden unit. The man, who is the 57th arrest in the operation, was detained on Thursday. Scotland Yard has said that he was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in a public office, corruption, and suspected conspiracy in relation to both offences.
