Incident reports 'ignored' at hospital

4th June 2009

MPs have been told that nurses at Stafford Hospital, which was criticised by the Healthcare Commission for "appalling failings", believed incident report forms about patient safety were being ignored.

Howard Catton of the Royal College of Nursing told the Commons Health Select Committee that 200 forms were not followed up in one six-month period in 2007 and that he believed the hospital board also did not address staffing levels. However, the government has rejected calls for an independent inquiry into the hospital.
