Inpatients free parking plan

30th September 2009

Health Secretary Andy Burnham has announced Labour hopes of scrapping hospital parking charges for inpatients in England if the party wins the next election.

Under new plans, Mr Burnham said patients would get a permit to cover the length of their stay which visitors could use to park for free. However, groups campaigning for free parking said the proposal did not go far enough as inpatients, who tend to require the most complex care, only represent a fraction of total patients.
