27th November 2007

The Institute of Genetics and Molecular Medicine will open in December and will see the collaboration of more than 500 experts.

The IGMM will open at Edinburgh's Western General Hospital and has already been awarded a £150m research package for the next five years. The institute sees a partnership between the Medical Research Council (MRC), the University of Edinburgh and Cancer Research UK.

Director Professor Nick Hastie, from the Human Genetics Unit of the MRC, said: "This institute heralds a new dawn of discovery science for human health".
