Interim chief executive for troubled hospital

5th July 2012

Jim Birrell is taking over as interim chief executive at University Hospitals of Leicester Trust and will replace Malcolm Lowe-Lauri, who has left to take up a role with consultants KPMG.

The trust was “escalated” to the Department of Health after missing its target date for applying for foundation trust status in October last year after the Department found that there had been finance and performance issues and also that there was a degree of “complacency” on savings programmes at the trust.
