6th February 2009

The life of Jade Goody is one that could not be scripted.

Having found stardom through reality TV, met an attractive presenter and had two sons with him, all was going well until she was thrown out of celebrity Big Brother accused of racism.

Yet she seemed to be bouncing back when an olive branch was offered to appear on another reality show.

But then her life took a devastating twist after she was forced to return home; given a diagnosis of cervical cancer with a 40% chance of survival. This is the life of Jade Goody today and still being played out on TV screens.

Jade has milked the reality television genre for all it is worth.

For Jade, going so public with her cancer, has left her again facing criticism, despite other high profile patients such as Kylie Minogue going public as an inspiration to other women.

But they never allowed us to see quite the same level of suffering as Jade is.

There is snobbery towards Jade that has not been there with others in a similar position, perhaps because they chose the upmarket press.

Jade also admits she is doing it for money – not for herself, but for her family.

She may not have the highest IQ, but she is not going down without a fight and a desire to give her sons a future.

She is showing a dignity and stoicism we should all admire.
