Lab errors patients recalled

30th July 2008

Hereford Hospital NHS Trust has recalled more than 100 patients after an investigation into the work of a laboratory scientist.

The hospital said 40 of the 102 patients' prognosis had been worse than they had first been told and the treatment for 70 had been changed, though the trust said no lives had been threatened by misdiagnosis.  The review began after histopathology staff, who study tissue for evidence of disease, reported their colleague who has since been suspended on full pay.
