Lack of jobs for young GPs threat to profession

14th November 2008
The head of the BMA's General Practitioners Committee Dr Laurence Buckman has said the shortage of prospects for GPs was a "colossal threat" to the NHS.

In a speech at the LMC conference, Dr Buckman said the problem was a "cancer in our midst" and added: "We have failed [younger GPs] and we must do something to get them into practice. If we don’t they are going to be emigrating or ripe for the picking by the private sector."
