Laptop stolen from hospital

15th February 2008

A laptop containing the medical records of more than 5,000 patients has been stolen from a hospital in the West Midlands.

The computer, taken from the outpatients department at Russells Hall Hospital in Dudley on January 8, contains information on 5,123 patients with an anticoagulation blood disorder. West Midlands police have been called in and those patients affected have been written to alerting them that their personal details have been stolen, though the hospital say the laptop and database is protected with passwords.
